GK Recommends: Watch a Filipino Musical in Manila, Trumpets Philippines Presents The Bluebird of Happiness!

Hi, Guys! I'm back from another OA (Organic Agriculture) Trip in Bacolod (will post soon on Guiltless Getaways)! I want to share with you some good news now that musicals are really getting some attention in Manila these past few years with the coming of Broadway shows like The Phantom of the Opera and now - Wicked. I'm inviting you now to support the local theater scene too, particularly this original Pinoy-written musical called The BlueBird of Happiness by the group Trumpets Philippines =D

Here's THE Robie Zialcita and Lynn Sherman's invitation for GK readers =)

Trumpets is now on its 23rd year and known for its original Filipino musicals in Manila such as "First Name", "Pamilya Maleta", "Fables & Parables" and adaptations of classic tales like "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe", "Joseph the Dreamer" and the "Little Mermaid". They're making a big musical comeback this year with The Bluebird of Happiness

It's an adaptation of the 1908 Belgian play by Maurice Maeterlinck - The Blue Bird. The President of Trumpets Mr. Audie Gemora first shared with us about his story at the launch - when he watched it in the 1940 Shirley Temple film.

Well, he wanted us to experience his fond childhood memory and pushed for the idea of this Pinoy musical. It took the Trumpets team around 3 years to complete =) The book and lyrics of The Bluebird of Happiness by Trumpets were written by Jaime del Mundo (below) and the music was created by Rony Fortich. Clap, clap - 3 brilliant men!

I was quite excited to hear that the journey and adventures of Mytyl and Tyltyl take place at Christmas-time (dahil Ber months na!!!) and it revolves around the search for happiness, which is something that all of us encounter in our everyday lives (and are trying to figure out). Then, there's Light who will guide their way and Tylo the faithful companion dog of the children.

Of course, there are antagonists like Night and Tylette.

Characters include:
Tyltyl performed by Anton Posadas or Guido Gatmaytan
Mytyl performed by Alessa Zialcita or Chimmi Kohchet-Chua
Mama Tyl performed by Mayen Bustamante-Cadd
Berylune performed by Jennifer Villegas-dela Cruz
Tylette performed by Lynn Sherman
Tylo performed by Robie Zialcita
Light performed by Carla Guevarra-Laforteza or Sweet Plantado-Tiongson
Grandpa Tyl performed by Steve Cadd
Grandma Tyl performed by Joy Virata
Night performed by Joel Trinidad
Father Time performed by Raymund Concepcion

I was so excited to see Robie Zialcita and Carla Guevarra-Laforteza perform again! I saw them last at the Charlie Brown musical with Sweet Plantado-Tiongson (who is in charge of Vocal Direction for this Bluebird musical too!).

You should check out the song Bluebird of Happiness below!!! Latest LSS ko yan =D The four children are the ones playing Mytyl and Tyltyl in this musical. Hay, inggit.. Hahaha. It's nice to know that they've found music and theater at such a young age. Hope to see more of them in the future!

Trumpet's The Bluebird of Happiness has over 50 cast members. Let's support Pinoy theater and these super talented Pinoy kids, as well as veteran musical actors and actresses! After all, it's really different to watch them perform live so I love musicals so much. There are no take 2's here unlike on TV and in the movies. In a way, I've found my happiness through music and sharing wonderful news like these to you. The prices are reasonable and are actually around 1/7th of what you will pay for international productions in Manila.

Children and children at heart are definitely invited =)
